ABOUT BOXOWL
BoxOwl started with
a lot of boxes.
A lifetime of moving led to a simple question: why should remembering where we put our things be so difficult?
A LIFETIME OF MOVING
Packing. Unpacking.
Then doing it again.
Long before BoxOwl was an app, boxes were simply part of my life.
I was born in Brazil and moved to the United States when I was 11. By the time I finished high school, I had moved more than 15 times. Since then, life has taken me across the United States and around the world, including time in Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil, The US East Coast, California and Texas.
I have packed homes, unpacked homes, filled garages, loaded trailers, opened storage boxes and helped plenty of other people move too.
THE FAMILIAR QUESTION
“Where did I put that?”
After enough moves, I realized getting something into a box was rarely the problem. Remembering exactly where it went months or years later was.
THE MOMENT THAT STARTED BOXOWL
We knew where the boxes belonged.
We didn't know what was inside them.
Years later, I was helping my uncle move across the United States. When we arrived, nearly everything he owned was sitting in boxes.
Some were marked Kitchen. Some said Living Room. But standing there looking at all those boxes, I realized the labels only told us where the boxes belonged. They didn't tell us what was actually inside them.
If he needed one particular item, which box was it in?
That question stayed with me. I started looking for a better solution, but most of what I found felt like traditional inventory software: systems that required printed labels, QR codes, scanning and extra steps before you could even get organized.
Why does this have to be so complicated?
A SIMPLER IDEA
Organization should be easy
to start.
A Sharpie and your phone.
That became one of the ideas behind BoxOwl.
You shouldn't need special equipment to start organizing. Grab a box. Mark it with an identifier. Tell BoxOwl what's inside. Put it away.
QR labels are there when you want them, but they aren't required. Technology should make organization easier, not create another project before you can even begin.
THE VISION GREW
What if finding your stuff
was as easy as asking?
Once BoxOwl knows what you have and where you put it, why should finding something require digging through an app? We already talk to technology every day.
“Where are my Christmas lights?”
The vision for BoxOwl is to connect with the assistants people already use—Alexa, Gemini, Siri and the technologies still to come—so the physical things around us become easier to find.
Make the physical world searchable.
THE MISSION BEHIND BOXOWL
BoxOwl is about
more than boxes.
I believe business should have a purpose beyond the business itself. My faith in God comes first in my life, and it shapes the way I approach my family, my work and the things I choose to build.
After years of creating businesses, pursuing ideas and learning through both successes and difficult experiences, I became increasingly convinced that whatever I build should ultimately be used to serve others.
BoxOwl represents a new chapter—one being built around the things that matter most to me.
PURPOSE IN PRACTICE
of BoxOwl's profits committed to
mission and service.
For years, I have traveled to Costa Rica, often during the summer, to participate in mission work and serve local communities. Those experiences have shown me both how much can be accomplished and how much more could be done with something permanent and sustainable.
A major focus of this commitment will be helping establish a permanent facility in Costa Rica that can serve the local community throughout the year—not only during an occasional mission trip.
As BoxOwl grows, I want its impact to grow with it.
THE PERSON BEHIND THE OWL
Built from experience.
Built with purpose.
My name is Andre Dos Santos. I'm Brazilian-born, American-raised, and apparently incapable of staying in one place for very long.
I'm a husband, a father, an entrepreneur, a filmmaker and a developer. I love taking an idea and figuring out how to make it real. That same purpose led me to create SERVING Holdings, focused on building and developing purpose-driven businesses with service to others at their core.
BoxOwl brings a lot of those pieces of my life together: years of moving, a love of technology, an entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to create and, most importantly, a belief that what we build can be used to do some good in the world.
It started with boxes.
But I hope it becomes much bigger than that.
THE BOXOWL WAY
Know what you have.
Know where it is.
ORGANIZE YOURSELF.
And help us do some good along the way.
